During his visit to Laos, Prime Minister Narendra Modi  presented a thoughtful gift to the wife of the President of Laos—a Patan Patola scarf elegantly packed in a Sadeli box. This gesture highlights India's rich cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship.

The Patan Patola textile, known for its intricate Double Ikat weaving technique, is a prized fabric woven by the Salvi family in the Patan area of Northern Gujarat. This meticulous art form requires great skill and is renowned for its complex geometric patterns and vibrant colors.

Adding to the significance, the scarf was placed in a Sadeli box, a decorative wooden box that itself is a work of art. The Sadeli inlay art, with roots in Surat, Gujarat, dates back several centuries and involves embedding various materials into wood to create exquisite patterns.

The gift symbolizes the essence of India's craftsmanship and cultural diplomacy, showcasing traditional Indian arts on the global stage.
