Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his two-day visit to Singapore on September 5, 2024, held a fruitful discussion with his Singaporean counterpart, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. This significant meeting marked a milestone in India-Singapore relations, as the two nations decided to upgrade their bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).

Upon his arrival in Singapore, Prime Minister Modi was warmly received with a red carpet welcome at the Singapore Parliament House. His visit began with signing the visitor's book, symbolizing the importance of this diplomatic engagement. The Indian community in Singapore also greeted him enthusiastically, reflecting the strong cultural ties between the two countries.

In a statement following the meeting, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the significance of this new chapter in India-Singapore relations. The leaders extensively discussed various dimensions of their bilateral relationship, including:

Focus on the Semiconductor Industry

Prime Minister Modi's visit also includes interactions with Singaporean business leaders, particularly within the semiconductor industry. Both leaders are scheduled to visit a semiconductor manufacturing facility, underscoring the importance of this sector in the future of India-Singapore economic cooperation.

Strengthening Economic and Cultural Ties

This visit to Singapore follows Prime Minister Modi's historic visit to Brunei, marking the first bilateral engagement by an Indian Prime Minister there.
